“We Can’t All Be Champions, Can We”?
There are countless unsung heroes in the world of track running. Working silently behind the scenes, they are the red blood cells of meets and races that allow athletes to turn up, tune in and run fast. There’s little need to worry about much else.
However, earlier this year whilst at East London’s Community Track, we were drawn to one particular volunteer – 81 year old Ivor Wiggett – and felt compelled to find out more.
‘Average’ Joe
It's a nondescript Saturday in late September. With little fanfare, Joe Parkinson wakes up knowing he won't be going to bed again until some point on Sunday night, at which point he'll have completed a double Ironman – 7.6km of swimming, 360km on the bike all topped off by an 84km run around Jersey's rugged, undulating coast.
